I was born in Basildon, Essex, and spent about the first 10 years of my life there. Then I moved to Harpenden, Hertfordshire, where I went to Roundwood Park School and where my parents still live.
After Roundwood Park, I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge for four years, graduating with a BA and an MSci in Experimental and Theoretical Physics. After some thought, I decided to pursue a PhD in the Engineering Department in Cambridge, and became heavily involved in research related to location tracking.
As I completed my PhD, my research group changed department, becoming part of the Computer science Department. I took a Research Associate (3-year contract job) within the group and continued my research. I was very fortunate to be given a long-term post on the department faculty (an Assistant Director of Research), which is my current status.
I married Katharine Streatfield in August of 2009 and we currently live in Bishop’s Stortford.
